Kozhikode Game Studio was founded in April 2015 by three passionate game developers who met while studying computer science at Calicut University. Starting with just a small office in the heart of Kozhikode, we initially focused on mobile game development for the Indian market.
Our breakthrough came in 2017 with the release of "Malabar Monsoon," a puzzle game that garnered over 500,000 downloads worldwide. This success allowed us to expand our team and invest in better equipment and software. In 2019, we moved to our current 5,000 sq. ft. facility on Mavoor Road, equipped with state-of-the-art development workstations, motion capture equipment, and a dedicated testing lab.
2020 marked a significant turning point as we secured our first major international contract with a European publisher. Since then, we've collaborated with studios in North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia, working on projects ranging from casual mobile games to AAA console titles. Our team has grown from 3 to 48 full-time developers, artists, designers, and testers.
In 2022, we established our proprietary game engine, "Keralite Engine," optimized for mobile and mid-range PC hardware, allowing us to create visually impressive games with lower hardware requirements. This technology has become one of our key competitive advantages.
Today, we're working on our most ambitious project yet – "Samudra," an open-world naval adventure game set in the Indian Ocean, scheduled for release in late 2024. This represents our first fully self-published AAA title and a major step toward our vision of creating globally successful IPs.
